70cl Alembic Still Bottle Support
The alembic was developed circa 800 AD by the Persian alchemist Jabiribn Hayyan; its modern descendant (used to produce alcohol) is the pot still. The French spelling alambic is also commonly used, especially as the apparatus is often associated with Cognac where it is known as alambic charentaise. Charente is the area where the grapes must be grown and the brandy itself produced in order to be rightfully called Cognac. This Alembic bottle support has been beautifully planished and lacquered.

This still is an exact replica of one of the two types of spirit still in production at the famous Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown. It represents the elegant 'Lampglass' spirit still and the coil will hold most round bottles. These stills are lacquered to prevent tarnishing and come with a copper pail and tea-light. These replicas are also available in a 20CL size.

This still is a replica of the 'Pear shaped' spirit stills that can be seen if you visit the Lagavulin Distillery on the beautiful Isle of Islay. The shape is quite different to any other Distillery in Scotland. Each still comes with a little copper pail to sit at the base of the cooling coil (worm).

The modern pot still is a descendant of the alembic, a distillation device invented around the eighth century AD for use in alchemy.
